The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol is the world's most widely used framework for measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions from companies, governments, and organizations. It provides comprehensive standards and guidelines for quantifying and reporting GHG emissions. The protocol categorizes emissions into three scopes:
- Scope 1: Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources (e.g., company vehicles or manufacturing).
- Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the consumption of purchased electricity, steam, heat, or cooling.
- Scope 3: All other indirect emissions across the value chain, including supply chain and product use.
